CEPU KE LAUT

Description:
Fishermen would bring their food rations for the day in a Cepu ke Laut, a circular wooden container that was lined with a banana leaf. The box had a tightfitting cover that was usually secured by a rope or a piece of wire. They were usually carved from a solid piece of lightwood such as Nangka or Angsana.

Surah Baqarah verse 154 is inscribed on the cepu cover.

وَلَا تَقُولُوا۟ لِمَن يُقْتَلُ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَمْوَٰتٌۢ
بَلْ أَحْيَآءٌۭ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَشْعُرُونَ

Wal aa taqooloo limai yuqtalu fee sabeelil laahi amwaat: bal
ahyaaa’unwwa laakil laa tash’uroon.

“And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah S.W.T, “They are dead.” “Rather, they are alive, but you perceive it not.”
