These book rests or Rehals were almost always used to support the Holy Quran and give it due reverence. It is usually made from a single plank of wood, partially split, leaving the central section from which a hinge is cut out. Decorative carving is normally placed on the lower section as the Holy Quran is laid on the upper V-shaped surface.
